Katie MacFarlane

Early Childhood Movement Program Director, Ballet Exam Prep Program Faculty, Progressing Ballet Technique (Certified Instructor), Adult Program Faculty, Acro (Acrobatic Arts Certified Instructor), Rambert Grades Creative Years Certified Instructor

Katie is a dance educator based in Pictou County, Nova Scotia, where she began her dance education. This early dance experience led to her completing ballet examinations through the British Association of Teachers of Dance, the Canadian Dance Teachers Association and the Royal Academy of Dance. 

With a deep respect for continued education, Katie began broadening her knowledge base in dance shortly after graduation from high school. She has achieved her Associate Membership with the Canadian Dance Teachers Association in Acrobatic Jazz, Modern and Ballet; and an Advanced Associate Membership with the Association of International Dance Teachers (South Africa) in Modern. During these formative training years, Katie also completed the Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts Dance History Course, High Five Certification through Dance Nova Scotia, NIA White Belt training and Tumblebugs Instructor certification. 

In recent years, Katie has completed the Adaptive Dance training course through the Boston Ballet, along with the required training to hold certification with Rambert Grades- Creative Dance for Early Years.  She is a Certified Acrobatic Arts instructor for Module One and continues to have her Progressing Ballet Technique certification renewed on reapplication each year.  

Valuing a strong dance and art community within rural Nova Scotia, Katie is a board member and volunteer coordinator for New Glasgow’s Art at Night event as well as a director on the board for Blurred Bodies Dance Projects. She has had the pleasure of being on the faculty at Ross Creek Centre for the Arts Dance Summer Dance Intensive alongside esteemed dance educators and musicians from across Canada since 2016. 

With a background in Early Childhood Education and a deep family connection to the arts, Katie strives to provide a safe, welcoming, and encouraging environment for all students in which they may grow and nourish their art, no matter their age.
